about

Wayne’s mother was an accomplished classical pianist, and gave he and his siblings piano lessons along with many other kids from the town. From that foundation Wayne has created compositions and soundscapes for live theatre, and has also contributed several pieces along with the vibrant electroacoustic community to BEAMS events.

On the Water offers a brief exploration of the theme of “quarantine calm,” with erratic noise giving way to more organized and tonal sounds. The piece includes my recording of the Whitemud freeway in the middle of a weekday (um, not in the middle of the freeway, just to be clear) to reflect ambivalent feelings toward traffic (let’s have more bikes and fewer cars – though a YT search indicates that many find traffic sounds calming). As well, the piece includes several iterative elements to see what the computer could get up to, though I had to set some parameters.
